G SPORT: ROSS BARKLEY CHELSEA MIDFIELDER LEARNS A NEW LESSON

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley says he learned "a big lesson" after he was criticised by Frank Lampard for his off-field behaviour.
Lampard, the Chelsea head coach, said Barkley was "naive" after he was caught out late in Liverpool, arguing with a taxi driver over spilled chips, just days before a Champions League game against Lille in October. sked if the incident had taught him a lesson, Barkley said: "Yes, a big lesson. You have got to be aware of your surroundings when you let you hair down for any player out there. You have just got to be aware of what's around you. It is just more about being with the right company and in private.
"When you play in the Premier League, you are a high-profile player, so it is about keeping low-key and switched on. When you are on holiday or away you need the right people around you.
"I have made that mistake and it won't happen again but I am sure it will happen to young players in the future. We all make mistakes but it is about being aware.
"Back in the day players wouldn't have to think about things like that but you can't forget people want to make you look bad. I am a very professional player but that 10 seconds doesn't make you look professional.
"That's just the way football is now with phones. You have to adapt to the way things are now."

It is not the first time Lampard has publicly criticised Barkley this season.
The Chelsea boss accused the midfelder of "showing a lack of professionalism" after he was pictured shirtless in a Dubai nightclub during an international break.
"Everyone makes mistakes," he said. "When you make mistakes, you have got to learn from them. I am 26 now and I understand when you make a mistake, learn from them and move on. He was really supportive.

Davido has come out to clear the air about the rumoured fling with his baby mama, Sophie Momodu.

The music star took to his Instagram stories on Thursday, January 2, 2020, where he shared a lengthy post about the reason Sophie Momodu joined him in his private jet during his trip to Ghana.
"I just want to drop a quick comment on the headlines of the silly blogs I've been seeing circulate about me taking the mother of first child on a trip to Ghana and really wish y'all will quit with it. You ALL know that I just proposed to Chioma recently and it would make no sense whatsoever for me to be doing such. My daughter's mother had her business in Ghana with Afrochella selling Imade's hair products at stalls and I was obviously booked to perform at Afronation.

G POLITICS: WHY NORTHERN YOUTHS BACK SOUTHERN PRESIDENCY- AREWA YOUTH

Some northern youths under the aegis of the Arewa Youth Consultative Movement on Thursday said they were supporting southern presidency in 2023 because the political elite of northern extraction had failed the region and Nigeria.
They said, “Insecurity, strangulation of government work, corruption, disregard for the rule of law, marginalisation, nepotism and the trampling of the fundamental human rights of the ordinary citizen has become the order of the day.”
Against this background, the group has, therefore, reiterated its resolve to settle for South-South presidency in 2023.
A coalition of youth groups in the region had also on Wednesday clamoured for power to shift to the southern part of the country, particularly, the South-South geopolitical zone in the 2023 presidential poll.
This was against the political permutation of the Prof. Ango Abdullahi’s-led Northern Elders’ Forum which wanted the region to retain the presidency in 2023.
But while addressing a press conference at the Arewa House, Kaduna on Thursday, the spokesperson for the group, Abdullahi Balarabe, said it was time the political elite from the North, who had dominated the political space since independence, gave other geopolitical zones a sense of belonging.
Balarabe also said a youthful southern president remained the choice of the youths of the region, come 2023.
He said, “It is obviously clear that our country is on a threshold, and the crossroad to which we have found ourselves is very pitiable.
“The issue of insecurity, strangulation of government work, corruption, disregard for the rule of law, marginalisation, nepotism and the trampling of the fundamental human rights of the ordinary citizen has become the order of the day.
“These anomalies that have stunted our growth as a nation since independence is clearly as a result of misgovernance occasioned by the selection of favoured incompetent persons into the helms of affairs.
“Elections are not free and the issues of our common interests have been thrown to the dogs.
“There is no even distribution amongst the various classes of citizens in terms of leadership.
“This, of course, has led to the recycling of the ‘old order’ who continue to plunder our resources.
“The Arewa Consultative Youth Movement has followed with interest, how the leadership of this country has been concentrated in the North for too long.
“Despite the erroneous clinging to power by the northern elite, issues of religious discrimination and tribal or ethnic sentiments have remained the order of the day.
“The need for us to be introspective and proactive on issues has now warranted us to state clearly without equivocation that we are calling for a return to the South-South presidency.
“We have a mission to change the mindset of youths and to reawaken them to the spirit of nationalism and dedication to ways that will bring about peace, progress and development in Nigeria.”

G POLITICS: US TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEATH OF IRAN GENERAL

The U.S killed Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in a “defensive action,” the Pentagon says.
“At the direction of the President, the US military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qassem Soleimani,” the Pentagon statement says.
The Pentagon says Soleimani was “actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region.”
“General Soleimani also approved the attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad that took place this week,” the statement continues.
The U.S. also held Soleimani and his Quds Force responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American and coalition service members and said he “orchestrated” a rocket attack on Dec. 27, which killed an American.
