On Thursday, The Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Ibadan zonal office, did arrest 32 suspected Internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo Boys at their residence at Liberty Estate area of Abeokuta, Ogun State. They are within the ages of 15 years to 39 years of age during an early morning sting operation carried out by men of the commission.
Information gathered that the suspects were taken by surprise when the EFCC operatives, who acted on a tip-off, swooped on them in one of their notorious havens.
“Fourteen of them claimed to be undergraduates, while 18 others said they were self-employed in different vocations.
“The arrest was sequel to a petition detailing their fraudulent activities, including Internet fraud through which they obtained money from unsuspecting victims.
“Items recovered from them included six exotic cars, laptops, mobile phones, several documents containing false pretences and fetish objects,” the commission’s spokesperson, Tony Orilade, said.
He noted that the suspects had started helping operatives with useful information.
