This felt like little more than a box-ticking exercise for a team with Manchester City’s ambitions. There was never any jeopardy, no sense that they were ever in any danger against opponents with all the nous and snarl of a sleeping kitten, and City did not have to do much more than tickle Fulham’s tummy to return to the Premier League’s summit.
It was over as a contest long before the end, goals from Bernardo Silva and Sergio Agüero enough for Pep Guardiola’s side, who will be hoping for a slip-up when Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The pressure is back on Jürgen Klopp’s side, who will start a point below the leaders when they face Spurs. City will have their feet up when they watch that one and they will have plenty of energy in their legs when they host Cardiff City on Wednesday given that Fulham, 13 points below 17th-placed Burnley with six games left, barely forced them to break into a sweat on a low-key afternoon by the Thames.
The task of puncturing the worst defence in the league proved predictably straightforward for City. They got down to business straight away, setting up camp in Fulham’s half from first whistle to last, and were so dominant that it almost felt as though they had wasted time by waiting until the fifth minute to break the deadlock.
Fulham, cautious and timid in their 5-4-1 system, had intended to frustrate Guardiola’s illustrious attack by sitting deep and waiting for opportunities to appear on the break. The problem with that ploy, however, is that Scott Parker’s players were riddled with anxiety even on the rare occasions when they had possession. Unable to cope with City’s high press, they were punished for trying to play out from the back when Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s errant pass went to Kevin De Bruyne instead of André-Frank Zambo Anguissa.
Bad idea. The ball was nestling in the back of Fulham’s net in a matter of seconds. De Bruyne, starting for the first time since 2 March after shaking off a hamstring problem, quickly found Agüero, who looked right and saw Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese midfielder cut inside, ignored a couple of limp challenges and fizzed a crisp drive inside the right post from 20 yards, confirming the suspicion that Fulham were horribly out of their depth against opponents of this calibre.
It barely resembled a contest as City rained attempts on Sergio Rico’s goal for the rest of the half. David Silva was at his creative best in midfield, De Bruyne looked free of rust and Raheem Sterling, brimming with confidence on the left flank, relished running at the nervous Cyrus Christie. Fulham, bereft of belief, could not get close to them. They looked like crumbling every time City attacked and were fortunate not to concede a penalty when Fosu-Mensah, who was having a shocking game in central defence, clattered into Sterling in the 30th minute.
Kevin Friend’s refusal to point to the spot was only a minor irritation for City given that they had doubled their lead three minutes earlier. Once again Fulham were punished for their sloppiness, Joe Bryan’s miscued pass giving Bernardo Silva the chance to free Agüero, who swept past the ineffective Maxime Le Marchand before lifting a lovely shot over the advancing Rico.
Resigned to their fate, Fulham had no threat without Alexsandar Mitrovic leading their attack and the absence of any dramatic tension sucked the energy out of the ground. The home fans indulged themselves with a few ironic olés whenever their team managed to string more than two passes together and chortled when Nicolás Otamendi hoofed a shot out of the ground, but otherwise they watched in near silence. Even a protest about expensive ticket prices in the 55th minute lacked any real spark or purpose.
If there was a disappointment for City, it was failing to make their goal difference even more imposing. De Bruyne scuffed straight at Rico after bursting through what passed for Fulham’s defence. Ilkay Gündogan whipped a venomous effort over the angle of post and bar. Sterling threatened with a bouncing effort. Guardiola will want sharper finishing against better opponents.
But that was a minor quibble. Ederson did not have to make a serious save and Guardiola was able to withdraw Agüero and De Bruyne long before the end. Tougher tests lie in wait.

ERA OF WHITE COLLAR JOBS GONE- EDO STATE GOVERNOR WARNS
Graduating students of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, have been charged
to be employers of labour, as white collar jobs are no longer readily
available.
The Acting Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, gave the charge on Saturday at the 25th Convocation ceremonies of Auchi Polytechnic, where a total of 28,325 students graduated from the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions.
He said the era of white collar jobs for graduates is no more in the
country, adding that graduates must strive to be self-employed and
create jobs to drive the economy.
Shaibu noted that the economy of the country now demands that all hands must be on deck to stimulate the nation’s growth and development.

“As for you graduands, don’t forget that Nigeria of today is in another phase. In those days, when you graduate like this, jobs are waiting for you, houses are waiting for you, cars are waiting for you.
“White collar jobs are no longer there. Jobs that you create with your hands are what you should pursue. You are privileged to be technically oriented. This makes it easier for you to be relevant in Nigeria of today,” Shaibu said.
In his speech, the Rector of the institution, Dr. Momodu Sanusi Jimah, said the polytechnic has raised the standard of discipline in the last two years.
“I can report with some confidence that indices of money-for-marks, amorous gratification for grades and other unethical practices have been largely curbed. The polytechnic achieved this feat by visiting sanctions on 27 staff who thought that these vices were now a way of life,” he said

BRITISH PM FOURTH ATTEMPT ON BREXIT DEAL
British Prime Minister Theresa May on Saturday mulled a possible
fourth attempt to get her Brexit agreement through parliament, faced
with the growing risk of a chaotic no-deal exit in less than two weeks’
time.
MPs on Friday resoundingly rejected May’s deal, although by a substantially lower margin than on two previous occasions in January and March.
“We believe the best way to respect the referendum is to deliver the deal,” Conservative Party chairman Brandon Lewis told BBC radio on Saturday.
Noting the growing support for her deal despite the defeat, May’s
spokesman told reporters on Friday: “We are at least going in the right
direction.”
MPs are due to gather again on Monday to consider possible changes to the deal that could ensure it is adopted, including support for closer economic ties with the European Union after Britain leaves.
The government is opposed to revisions of its Brexit strategy and May pointed out on Friday that any options would still require first that parliament approve her withdrawal agreement — the document spelling out the terms of the divorce.
The withdrawal agreement allows for a long transition period which would temporarily maintain the status quo to give individuals and businesses time to adapt to the future UK-EU relationship.
Thousands of flag-waving protesters rallied outside parliament on Friday to accuse MPs of betraying Brexit by delaying it, holding up signs saying “Give Our kingdom Back” and “Free Britain now”.
“Brexiteers” in May’s party oppose the deal because they believe it does not go far enough in severing ties with Brussels, while “Remainers” want closer ties with the EU, like Norway or Switzerland.
Some would prefer Brexit is stopped altogether.

AVOIDABLE DEATH, HIGH INFANT MORTALITY RATE IN BAYELSA
The Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, has again attacked the multi-national oil firms for what he described as brazenly destroying the Niger Delta environment without adherence to international best practices in their activities.
Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/03/high-infant-mortality-rate-avoidable-deaths-in-bayelsa-dickson/The Governor said that the mindless activities of the multinational oil firms in the oil rich state was responsible for the high infant mortality rate in Bayelsa and indeed the Niger Delta. The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, quoted the Governor to have said that a UN survey revealed that crude oil spillage causes the death of over 16,000 infants within the first month of birth in the Niger Delta. Dickson noted that the Niger Delta environment was in turmoil and the livelihood of the people in peril because of the insensitive degradation of the environment by international oil firms who are driven solely by a quest to make money. He said that the flagrant abuse of the Niger Delta environment as clearly shown by available statistical evidence, indicated that about 40 million barrels of crude oil are spilled into the damaged environment of the Niger Delta as opposed to four million barrels in the United States. He lamented that the ravages oil production had reduced life expectancy in Bayelsa and other oil producing states in the Nigeria by ten years below the National Average. The Governor said that the Bayelsa State Government under his leadership would intensify proactive measures to attract necessary attention to the mindless destruction of the Niger Delta environment and the People’s means of livelihood by the oil firms. Consequently, the Governor inaugurated a ten-man Commission of Inquiry on Environmental Degradation under the chairmanship of the Archbishop of York, Dr. John Sentamu. The Governor noted that the panel of highly reputable local and foreign experts had a nine-point mandate to investigate “the environmental, health, socio-economic, cultural and human damage caused by operations of both local and multinational oil companies.” Governor Dickson noted that the panel was set up to hold oil firms accountable to the imperative to adopt international best practices in their oil exploration activities. He added that the IOCs had a responsibility to adopt the same operational standard to the environment of Bayelsa as Norway, Scotland and the United States. The commission has a mandate to hold public and private hearing and submit the report of its finding in nine months. In his remarks, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. John Sentumau promised a holistic investigation into the impact of oil spillage in Bayelsa and the Niger Delta. He expressed shock at the detrimental effect of oil spillage and called on the international community to give priority attention to the protection of the environment which he described as the collective heritage of mankind. The committee comprises of a former President of Ghana, Dr. John Kufour, Baroness Valerie Amos, Prof. Engobo Emeseh, Dr. Anna Zalik, Dr. Kathryn Nwajiaku-Dahou (Secretary), Prof. Roland Hodler and Prof. Michael Watts. The immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Kemasuode Wodu, is the commission’s Legal Counsel.

COURT RE-ORDER THE ARREST OF NMANDI KANU
A Federal High Court Thursday revoked the bail of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu and order his arrest.
Justice Binta Nyako ruled that the court gave the order because Kanu failed to appear in court after his bail was granted in April 2017.
Kanu was first arrested in October 2015 for demanding the separation of Nigeria from Biafra and was later granted bail on April 25, 2017,.
He was granted bail on health grounds and was asked to present three sureties, one of whom must be a serving senator, a Jewish religious leader and a highly respected person who must own a landed property in Abuja.
The judge, then, warned the IPOB leader against granting press interviews, holding rallies or being in a gathering of more than 10 persons while on bail.
In September 2017, Kanu reportedly went missing in September 2017, when his Umuahia family compound was invaded by men of the Nigeria Army.
The Nigerian government was accused of keeping the separatist group leader in captivity by Kanu’s family members but the government dismissed the claims.
He was first seen again in the public in Jerusalem on October 18, 2018. He said he left Nigeria because the court could not guarantee his safety.
In a later message posted to Radio Biafra’s Facebook, a man claiming to be Kanu said he was ready to bring “hell” to Nigeria.
“We see the re-enactment of his bizarre, episodic threat as a mere distraction which will not be allowed to detract from the existing cordial relationships between Nigeria and other countries,” said presidential spokesman Garba Shehu.
Since then, Kanu is yet to come back to Nigeria.
However, the judge ordered that trial would continue in the absence of the IPOB leader and directed that a bench warrant be issued for his arrest.
She ruled that the trial must continue one way or another and directed that a fresh date for the continuation be given by parties so that the matter would continue in Kanu’s absence.

KYRGYZSTAN HAS CHARGED TWO PERSONS WITH HATE CRIME FOR ANTI PUTIN PROTEST
Kyrgyzstan has charged two people with inciting inter-ethnic hatred after they protested a visit to the Central Asian country by Russian President Vladimir Putin, their lawyer said Thursday.

(Photo by MAXIM SHEMETOV / POOL / AFP) Nurlan Karymshakov and Gulzana Imayeva, who are husband and wife, were arrested while staging a protest outside the Russian embassy in the capital Bishkek on Wednesday, the lawyer, Zamir Zhooshev, told AFP. Activists said the pair held posters calling Putin a “killer” and an “occupier” and called for Russia to leave the military base it controls in Kyrgyzstan. Putin arrived Thursday on a state visit to Kyrgyzstan, an impoverished ex-Soviet ally that looks to Russia for much-needed investment and security. READ ALSO: No Trump-Putin meeting while Russia holds Ukraine ships, says Bolton Kyrgyz police confirmed the arrests but did not provide further details. “They have been charged with inciting inter-ethnic hatred,” lawyer Zhooshev said. The offence “is a serious crime and can carry a prison sentence up to 10 years,” he said, calling the charges “complete nonsense.” The Kyrgyz government has regularly stressed its loyalty to Moscow and Russia has operated a strategically important military base in Kyrgyzstan since 2003. In 2012, Kyrgyzstan agreed to extend Moscow’s lease of the Kant base by 15 years while Russia pledged to cancel nearly $500 million of debts. The latest charges come as a Kyrgyz citizen is on trial for inciting inter-ethnic hatred over critical comments about Russia on social media. International rights groups regularly accuse Kyrgyzstan and other countries in the predominantly authoritarian region of Central Asia of using inter-ethnic hatred laws too broadly.

MOTHER HAS TWINS 26 DAYS AFTER FIRST BIRTH
A Bangladeshi mother has stunned doctors by giving birth to healthy twins 26 days after a first child was born prematurely.
Arifa Sultana, 20, gave birth to a baby boy last month through normal delivery, but doctors missed the presence of a second uterus.
“She didn’t realise she was still pregnant with the twins. Her waters broke again 26 days after the first baby was born and she rushed to us,” Sheila Poddar, a gynaecologist who treated the woman, told AFP.
Podder carried out an emergency caesarean section to deliver the twins — one boy and one girl — last Friday.

The young woman from Jessore district in southwest Bangladesh was allowed to go home with her three healthy babies on Tuesday. Podder said there were no complications.
“I haven’t seen any case like this in my 30-year plus medical career,” Dilip Roy, chief government doctor in Jessore, told AFP.
Roy questioned the actions of Khulna Medical College Hospital doctors for not detecting the second pregnancy.
Hailing from a poor family, Sultana said she was happy with the three children but felt concerned how she would bring them up.
She told AFP her husband earns barely 6,000 taka ($70) a month as a labourer. “I don’t know how we will manage such a huge responsibility with this little amount.”
Her husband Sumon Biswas put on a brave face. “It was a miracle from Allah that all of my children are healthy. I will try my best to keep them happy,” he said.
